Divers across Europe have been working together to host events to raise awareness of the urgent need to end overfishing of sharks and prevent greater harm to the ecosystems they maintain this week.

Sharks have been around for more than 400 million years, but in the last one hundred years our overfishing and finning practices have made sharks one of the most threated species on the planet. Today, one third of European species are threatened with extinction. Europe is a particularly bad offender here, with some of the weakest finning regulations in the world. By the end of this year the EU will finalise a long awaited plan of action to protect sharks.

Please check out the website above, sign our petition and get involved.

The popular BBC 2 program Coast is researching diving stories to feature in the fourth and fifth series of the show.

Stories will range from exploration and research dives.

The program is also interested in which diving sites are worth covering for future episodes and the location of marine life.

The wreck of the Holland V is to be surveyed by the Nautical Archaeology Society.

The submarine the first commissioned by the Royal Navy in 1903 was decommissioned in 1912, whilst in transport the sub foundered six miles south-east of the Royal Sovereign Lighthouse.

The wreck was discovered in 1995 and was first explored by submarines expert Innes McCartney in 2001.
